Beatrice Copeland Half Life is an original TV miniseries about the aftermath of the world’s largest nuclear explosion. On April 24, 1986 the fourth reactor at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded, after members of the nightshift botched an emergency drill. The explosion ignited a radioactive fire that burned for 10 days. Half Life is a narrative reconstruction of those 10 days and the stories of the fire’s first responders – plant workers, firemen, soldiers, and miners – known as liquidators. The series explores the literal and symbolic decay of the lives and community surrounding Chernobyl. By combining stories of survival, loss, and hope, Half Life holds great potential as a lesson for the future of nuclear power.
