Maasai Sisters

Samantha Andre

Maasai Sisters is a documentary and campaign on the subject of female genital mutilation (FGM) and early forced marriage in the Maasai community of Kenya. The film follows the lives of girls rescued from FGM and early forced marriage, as well as the change makers in the surrounding communities. The goal of this project is to document social change and the battle for gender equality after these longtime traditions become criminalized in rural Kenya.

Maasai Sisters is connected with AIC Rescue Program, an on the ground nonprofit in Kenya. Once complete, the film will be hosted in a series of local screenings and panels, where the next generation of Maasai are proving that cultural change does not mean the end of their culture.
